Tips for a Good Seminar

These are based on what is expected in the course and the feedback that has been received on the seminars to date.

1) The seminar should be 45 minutes long. (This means 45 minutes from when the seminar begins, not 45 minutes from noon.)

2) Provide sufficient background for people who are not familiar with the area.

3) Include (as the last 15 minutes or so) the most up-to-date, cutting edge research in the area.

4) Have good eye contact with the audience and speak loudly and clearly.

5) Include references on the slides as you present the work. In addition to being the correct way to present the work of others, this will allow someone to write down the reference if s/he is intereted in a particular result.
